Gabriela Herculano, CEO & Co-Founder, iClima, UK
Gaby has over 25 years of experience in both finance and energy. She started her career in equity research, covering the Latin American electric utility sector at Lehman Brothers. After business school she moved into the buy side, where she worked in greenfield project finance and M&A at AES Corporation and as an Executive Director at GE Capital’s Energy Financial Services team in London. When structuring private equity infrastructure investments, her primary focus was on renewable energy assets across Europe, having invested into solar and onshore wind and screened several opportunities in offshore wind. Gaby combines solid fundamental analysis skills with energy industry knowledge. Moreover, she has been involved with sustainable development since 1992 when she attended the UNFCCC Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Gaby earned her MBA from Wharton in 2002.
Claudia Álvarez Troncoso, Managing Partner at Etikamente G|E|C, Dominican Republic
Claudia is a strategist, lawyer and consultant with more than 20 years of international experience who focuses on corporate governance, ethics, ESG, regulatory compliance, AML/CFT, financial crimes, compliance audits, anti-corruption and bribery, risk and behavioural risk.
Claudia has served as a Board Member and Justice Committee Coordinator at Participación Ciudadana (Transparency International’s chapter in the Dominican Republic), Chairman and Board Member of the LATAM Center for Ethics and Compliance (CLEC Centro Latam de Etica Cumplimiento), and Director of the program Women in Compliance Ethics DR (WICE DR).
She has also held roles as an Advisor of the Financial Analysis Unit of the Dominican Republic on AML/FT training (2017-2018), VP of Corporate Compliance for International Banks for a regional financial group (Central America and the Caribbean), VP of Corporate Governance for a general license bank in Panama, Technical Consultant in the Legal Office of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, and former VP of the AML/CFT Committee of the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic.
She is the producer and host of the podcast EtikaMente Radio, a winner at the Latin Podcast Awards 2020, and has participated as a speaker at various international conferences and seminars throughout Latin America and the USA.
Claudia has also been certified by several international organizations (FIBA, AECGR, FATF-IDB) in AML/CFT, risk management, reputational risk, anti-bribery.
Nicole Phinopoulou, Lawyer & Legal Advisor, Cyprus
Nicole Phinopoulou is an experienced Lawyer with more than 18 years of practical experience. Her cutting-edge expertise is focused on Banking Finance, Capital Markets and Financial Services, and Corporate and Commercial Law. She is also highly engaged in providing ongoing advice on general Corporate, Compliance and Regulatory issues attributed to her practice.
She has a diversified client base and has led teams on numerous projects related to her fields of expertise. Her expertise is duly recognised by the industry, embracing her professional, technical, in-depth legal and financial knowledge deriving from delivered Projects (e.g. Asset Wealth Management Portfolios, structuring banking and alternative investment funds, etc.)
For the last eight years, she has been actively advising on the regulatory implications of utilising environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. This work has been carried out especially during the investment process and to map strategies and tools related to the EU policies to support the flow of private finance towards sustainable economic activities under the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (e.g. Taxonomy Regulation, Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)). Her practice embraces advisory on application of Sustainable Finance activities in achieving sustainability.
In November 2020, Nicole successfully completed the Sustainable Finance professional programme of Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).
Between 2016-2018, she served as Independent Non-Executive Director of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) board. She has also served as a Non-Executive Member on the Council of the University of Cyprus(UCY). Nicole is also pro-bono legal advisor to CSR Cyprus organisation.
